Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.
We’ve design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas‑grid. Here’s our entire business plan. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years.
Rivan is bottlenecked by information. With every test we run, or hypothesis we disprove, we get closer to our engineering requirements. This requires a meticulous and systematic approach to a hypothesis > test > iterate process. We’re on the lookout for a Chemical Lab Technician that can rapidly accelerate our testing, deconvolute the outputs into something that makes sense, and drive us towards a beautiful design. Our R&D facility is waiting for you.
The role:
- Support experimental work underpinning Rivan’s lime-based DAC process through hands‑on laboratory testing, apparatus assembly, and data analysis.
- Design, build, and operate lab and bench‑scale experiments involving solid–gas reactions (hydration, carbonation, calcination), and gas separation.
- Execute test plans, collect and analyse data, and present findings to the broader R&D and engineering teams.
- Contribute to experimental design using Design of Experiments (DoE) principles and assist in developing safe, repeatable test procedures.
Core skills:
- 2–5 years laboratory or pilot‑scale experience in chemical/process engineering or applied chemistry environment.
- HNC/HND, BSc, or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Hands‑on experience with experimental setup design, instrumentation, and data collection
- Familiarity with gas‑solid systems, e.g. adsorption
- Competence in data analysis and report generation (Excel, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of health and safety in chemical laboratories and pilot environments.
Specifics:
- £40‑50k Salary depending on experience
- Significant share options as part of the early team
- In‑person work at our HQ in Bermondsey, South‑East London
- Unlimited time‑off
We encourage exceptional applicants from all backgrounds to apply for this role, even if they do not meet all the requirements listed.
