The Opportunity

Rittal‑CSM Ltd is looking for a Design Engineer to join our Engineering team in Plymouth. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in the mechanical design lifecycle of IT cabinets, enclosures, and associated accessories, from initial concept through to product launch. You will work in a fast‑paced, innovation‑driven, mass‑production environment, with a strong focus on design for manufacture, cost efficiency, and engineering compliance. The role is customer‑facing and offers exposure to both New Product Introduction (NPI) and existing product development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce 3D models and concepts and 2D production drawings for sheet metal components, weldments, and assemblies.
  • Support both product updates and NPI projects.
  • Chair and contribute to cross‑functional design reviews internally and with customers.
  • Manage customer relationships and expectations relating to product design.
  • Ensure designs meet manufacturing, performance, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement and problem‑solving initiatives.
  • Work closely with internal teams including engineering, sales, procurement, and production.

Qualifications & Experience

We welcome candidates from all backgrounds. To succeed, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline (or significant relevant experience).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar design engineering role.
  • CAD software (Creo advantageous).
  • PDM systems (Windchill advantageous).
  • Sheet metal and fabrication design.
  • DFMA for mass production environments.
  • Tolerance analysis and D‑FMEA.
  • MS Office.
  • Keyshot and FEA knowledge (desirable but not essential).

Rewards Package

  • Salary of ÂŁ40,000.00 – ÂŁ46,000.00, dependent on experience based on your qualifications and experience.
