Role Description

The Heating Engineer (Gas & Renewables) is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Edinburgh.

This position involves installing, maintaining, and repairing gas boilers, heating systems, and renewable technologies such as heat pumps and solar thermal systems.

Day‑to‑day tasks include diagnosing faults, performing safety checks, carrying out routine servicing, and commissioning new systems to meet regulatory and manufacturer standards.

The engineer will liaise with clients on‑site, provide clear explanations of work performed, complete all necessary documentation, and ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.

Collaboration with other mechanical and electrical team members and occasional travel to client sites within the region may be required.

Qualifications

  • Relevant technical skills in gas heating systems and renewable technologies (e. g., boilers, heat pumps, solar thermal) and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong diagnostic, problem‑solving, and fault‑finding skills, with experience in planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Good communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team and interact professionally with clients on‑site.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices for safe working in mechanical and electrical environments.
  • Recognised gas qualifications (e. g., Gas Safe registration or equivalent), and training or certification in renewable energy systems is highly beneficial.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client locations as required.
  • Previous experience as a heating engineer or in a similar building services role; apprenticeship or vocational qualification in plumbing, heating, or mechanical engineering is an advantage.
