Job Summary

We have a vacancy for a talented draughtsperson / Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Technician in either civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering, to join our Risktec/TUV team at our office in Great Yarmouth and Sizewell B Nuclear power station. As a CAD Technician you will have a minimum of 2-3 years experience and will have experience to transform work projects and engineering concepts into detailed 2D, 3D technical drawings and models. As this role is on-site for projects at a major nuclear plant at Sizewell B, it would be the ideal opportunity for someone local to Suffolk or who is open to relocating from within the UK.

Security Clearance

You will need to be eligible for UK security clearance, or have already; CTC security clearance or higher, to aid with the vetting process. Nuclear industry knowledge/experience is good, but not necessary. Due to the nature of the work, candidates must have a suitable background and a valid UK working status that will allow them to achieve UK security clearance. All applicants will be subject to a screening process prior to interview to ensure that you meet the security clearance criteria. By applying for this role, you will be agreeing to undertake initial security clearance screening and will be asked to provide evidence of your eligibility for security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Making necessary alterations to pre-existing drawings based on client feedback or project revisions.
  • Ensuring that all technical drawings meet safety standards, industry guidelines, and project constraints.
  • Organizing CAD files, managing drawing registers, and maintaining records of project documentation.
  • Occasionally performing surveys on site to conduct measurements or assess the practical buildability of designs.

Qualifications

Education/Background: GCSC or National 5 passes in Maths, Science or Technology and HNC, HND, C&G parametric modelling, NVQ 2, or formal CAD Certification in engineering, design, or architecture.

  • A knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to create and read technical drawings.
  • IT skills and experience using computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD, Solidworks and Revit.
  • The ability to transfer, display and manipulate your work using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Skilled in creating and interpreting spreadsheets for effective data tracking and management.
  • Attention to detail for creating accurate and detailed drawings and for checking other colleagues' work for accuracy and quality.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate and build relationships with clients, other engineers and architects.
  • Confident working independently or as part of a team.
  • Adaptable and quick to learn new software and systems.
  • Produce detailed technical drawings, plans, and schematics based on specifications given by engineers and registered contract partners.
  • Revise and update drawings based on feedback and project requirements.
  • Effective organisation and time management skills to ensure you complete work to project deadlines.
  • Mathematical skill for completing calculations and estimates.
  • Spatial and design skills so you can visualise projects in 2D and 3D.
  • The ability to problem-solve and to come up with creative and innovative solutions to design problems.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements in line with industry standards.

Please ensure that you have made yourself aware of the location of Sizewell B Power station and that you have considered your accommodation and travel arrangements to and from work when applying. If you are invited to interview you will be expected to travel to our Great Yarmouth office.
