We care deeply about building the right thing, in order to fundamentally shift mindsets in the cybersecurity industry. We ship quickly & continuously in order to learn and iterate - whilst always pushing for the highest possible quality bar and keeping security and automation front and centre. The core of our stack is GoLang, AWS, and Vue.js, with modern design philosophies and a cloud-native approach.

Role

Our Product Engineers play a crucial role in our user and product experience. You will be focused on solving innovative end-to-end product challenges for our customers. While you may have a natural inclination towards the backend or frontend, we expect you to have a good breadth of knowledge across the stack. You will delve into all aspects of our tech stack and product portfolio, having meaningful impact on our customers and the overall success of the business. As a Staff Engineer, you will typically be anchored to a single squad (often in a Tech Lead position) but you will be expected to influence across all squads and help set high standards and consistency across the organisation. You should expect to operate at varying levels of detail across the stack and may manage multiple priorities simultaneously. You will collaborate daily with designers, product managers, other engineers and the wider business to create a great product experience and continuously ship value to our users. You will be expected to mentor others within your squad and instil extremely high quality bars and effective modes of operation across our technology organisation. You will also have input into our engineering strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate to deliver an exceptional product. Work directly with product managers and designers to bring ideas to life, while understanding our market and customers to influence product strategy and challenge assumptions.
  • Develop high quality systems and code. Design and develop the systems that underpin the Risk Ledger product across the stack.
  • Move fast, with an eye for quality. Maintain a high quality bar through testing, automation, discipline, consistency and best practice, balanced with pragmatism and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Enjoy being a generalist. Contribute across all areas of the platform and the business, empowering the team through diverse knowledge.
  • Nurture talent and growth of the team. Mentor junior to senior engineers to level up hands-on technical and architectural decision making.
  • Have an impact. In a growing startup, you will have opportunities to contribute outside your day-to-day role.

Experience across multiple engineering teams focused on building a customer-focused SaaS product, weighing value to clients against technical excellence. Deep experience with either backend or frontend development. Backend language preferably Go; or Java, C# or Python; frontend: Typescript preferably with VueJS or React. In either case, experience with SQL and NoSQL data stores and deep knowledge of data model design. Containers and Orchestration: Docker and Kubernetes. Cloud providers and cloud-native services, preferably AWS. Event-driven systems and messaging services such as SQS/SNS, Kafka or RabbitMQ. Experience leading the design of non-trivial solutions, working with others to implement. A desire to deeply understand our customers and the problems they face to improve their day-to-day experience. An ability to thrive in ambiguity, tackle ill-defined problems, and operate autonomously. A keen sense of curiosity and a natural drive to learn and grow. A passion to work collaboratively with others; comfort with pairing, mob programming and XP principles is a strong plus.

You might have

  • Participated in mentoring other members of your team. Lead Engineers are expected to take on nurturing responsibility and general tech leadership.
  • A startup/scale-up background. Willingness to engage with ambiguity of an early stage company.

How to prepare for a job interview at Risk Ledger

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Risk Ledger uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
