Rising Hope Education is looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a young child with autism within Year 1 at an inclusive mainstream primary school in East London.
Location: Bethnal Green
Pay: £93-£113 per day, depending on experience
Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday
Start: 1 September 2026
Contract: Full academic year, with potential to continue
The child is currently pre-verbal and communicates and engages through a variety of methods, including visual cards, music, familiar routines and interaction with trusted adults. They are energetic and require somebody who understands that communication goes far beyond spoken language. Behaviour is generally well managed. This isn’t a role centred around significant aggression or crisis behaviour. Instead, you’ll be helping the child communicate, regulate, engage with their environment and gradually access more of their school day.
The right person
We’re looking for somebody who is warm and nurturing but able to provide structure, boundaries and consistency. Experience in any of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Autism / ASC
- Pre-verbal or non-speaking children
- PECS or visual communication
- Attention Autism
- Sensory regulation
- Speech, language and communication needs
- Early Years or KS1 SEND
- EHCP-led support
You don’t need experience in every area. More important is your ability to observe, learn and understand what a child may be communicating through their behaviour. This is an opportunity to work consistently with one child and see the impact of your support develop throughout an entire academic year.
Before starting, we can arrange an informal school visit to meet the Deputy Headteacher or a Microsoft Teams conversation with SLT. The position starts 1 September and will run for the full academic year, with strong potential to continue longer term.
