Rising Hope Education is recruiting an experienced 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant for a long-term, part-time position within a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in East London. This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody looking for two consistent days per week every Thursday and Friday throughout the academic year.
You will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a verbal child in Year 3 with autism, helping them access learning, manage transitions, develop independence and feel confident and regulated within the classroom environment. This is effectively a job-share position. An experienced Teaching Assistant who has supported the child for over a year will continue working with them Monday to Wednesday. We are therefore looking for somebody who can complement the excellent support already in place and provide the child with consistency across the remainder of the week.
Who are we looking for?
- Strong experience supporting children with autism or SEND
- Previous 1:1 experience within a primary or specialist setting
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- A good understanding of autism, regulation and communication
- The ability to encourage independence rather than creating dependency
- Excellent reliability and commitment
The school has a supportive senior leadership team and is keen to find the right person, rather than simply filling the vacancy. Before starting, Rising Hope Education can arrange either an informal visit to the school to meet the Deputy Headteacher or a Microsoft Teams meeting with a member of SLT. This position starts on 1 September and is expected to continue throughout the full academic year, with the potential to continue beyond this.
