Rise10 Recruitment is proud to be working on behalf of a well-established and growing engineering and automation business. We are seeking a Technical Buyer to take ownership of procurement activities, ensuring the timely and cost-effective sourcing of technical components and materials to support complex automation projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and technically capable individual with experience in engineering or manufacturing environments to play a key role in supporting project delivery and operational performance.
Responsibilities
- Source and purchase electrical, mechanical, and technical components for engineering projects
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers, securing competitive pricing and terms
- Raise and manage purchase orders accurately and efficiently
- Track deliveries and ensure materials arrive in line with project timelines
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
Technical Liaison
- Collaborate closely with engineering and project teams to understand technical requirements
- Interpret technical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and specifications
- Source alternative or equivalent components where required
- Support sourcing of bespoke or long-lead-time items
Cost & Supplier Management
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and commercial terms
- Monitor supplier performance (quality, delivery, cost)
- Identify cost-saving and efficiency improvement opportunities
- Resolve supplier issues and escalate where necessary
Administration & Reporting
- Maintain accurate procurement records and supplier data
- Monitor stock levels of key components
- Produce reports on spend, supplier performance, and procurement activity
- Ensure compliance with internal purchasing processes
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a buying/procurement role within engineering, manufacturing, or a technical environment
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and BOMs
- Strong knowledge of engineering components (electrical, mechanical, or automation-related)
- Confident negotiation and supplier management skills
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP/purchasing systems
- Strong communication skills across technical and commercial teams
Desirable
- Experience in automation, controls, or bespoke engineering procurement
- Familiarity with components such as PLCs, sensors, drives, or pneumatics
- Knowledge of lean procurement or continuous improvement practices
- Experience conducting supplier reviews and performance management
