Overview
In this client-side role, you provide environmental assurance across tunnelling and civil works in London. You will review contractor submissions, monitor compliance, and raise issues where needed to protect the project’s environmental commitments. You’ll work with delivery teams, regulators, and authorities to manage waste, air quality, noise, and other environmental risks. The role offers long-term progression on a major UK infrastructure programme and exposure to senior stakeholders. You will shape environmental outcomes on a high-profile tunnelling and civil engineering portfolio.

Responsibilities
- Provide client-side environmental assurance across major tunnelling, shaft and civil engineering works
- Conduct assurance visits on multiple live construction sites
- Review contractor environmental plans, permits, submissions and technical evidence
- Monitor compliance with environmental legislation and project requirements
- Support management of waste, noise, vibration, dust, air quality, water and pollution risks
- Identify environmental issues requiring warnings or formal change management
- Challenge poor performance and ensure mitigation and corrective actions
- Support environmental stage gates, audits, reporting and performance reviews
- Collaborate with contractors, engineering teams, regulators and local authorities
Key requirements
- Environmental experience within major infrastructure, civil engineering or complex construction
- Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and construction environmental management
- Experience working in a live construction environment
- Experience reviewing environmental documentation, permits, consents or contractor submissions
- Understanding of environmental impact assessment and major project environmental requirements
- Confident influencing and challenging Tier 1 contractors and senior stakeholders
- Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
- Broad environmental knowledge or substantial experience within a relevant environmental specialism
- Experience in rail, tunnelling, highways, utilities, energy, nuclear or major civil engineering beneficial
