Are you an Electronic Design Engineer with a strong background in end-to-end hardware development, looking to play a key technical role within a high-performance R&D environment? This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking engineering company at an exciting stage of growth, where you will act as a technical authority for hardware design and contribute directly to the development of innovative, high-end products used in the global Subsea Oil & Gas and UK Rail industries.

You will be joining a well-established and highly respected organisation known for delivering robust, safety-critical electronic solutions in demanding, regulated environments. The company invests heavily in R&D and values engineering excellence, quality, and continuous improvement.

In this senior-level role, you will take ownership of hardware design activities across the full product lifecycle—from translating requirements into robust architectures, through schematic design and PCB development, to prototyping, bring-up, validation, and production support. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners, while also supporting and mentoring engineers within the research team.

This role is ideal for an electronics engineer with technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and confidence leading hardware decisions in complex, high-reliability applications.

The Role
  • Translate product requirements into robust electronic hardware designs, including architecture, schematics, component selection, and PCB layout oversight.
  • Lead prototype builds, board bring-up, debugging, testing, and validation, ensuring designs are production-ready and compliant with DFM/DFA principles.
  • Act as the technical authority for hardware decisions, design reviews, issue resolution, and support R&D project delivery through coordination and risk management.
The Person
  • Degree-qualified in Electronics/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience) with proven end-to-end R&D electronics design experience.
  • Strong PCB design and layout expertise using Altium, with solid understanding of analog, digital, and power electronics in regulated or safety-critical industries (e.g. Subsea, Oil & Gas, Rail).
  • Experience with embedded electronics and C/C++ programming, circuit simulation, hardware testing, and a mindset focused on quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.
