Multi Utility Design Engineer / Utility Design Engineer £48,000 - £57,000 + Hybrid Working + Multi-Utility Training + Technical Development + Long-Term Progression + Excellent Pension

Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk (Commutable from: Ipswich, Stowmarket, Thetford, Newmarket, Cambridge, Sudbury, Diss, Norwich)

Are you a Utility Design Engineer, Electrical Design Engineer or Gas/Water Design Engineer looking to become truly multi-utility, with structured development and the chance to take ownership of high-value designs from day one within a respected national infrastructure group?

On offer is a secure, permanent position where you'll develop your capability across HV/LV, gas, water and fibre designs, supported by a wider design function and clear technical progression as you build proficiency across additional utilities. This organisation is a long-established specialist in last-mile utility networks, known for high standards, strong internal collaboration and investing in their people.

Due to continued project awards and growth across new housing and mixed-use developments, they are expanding their offsite design team. In this role you will produce (and at times oversee) offsite/enabling utility designs, liaise with upstream network operators, attend post-award meetings with customers, and ensure designs are compliant with legislation and standards including CDM and NRSWA, handing projects over to onsite designers in line with programme.

This role would suit a Design Engineer with experience in at least one utility network, looking for genuine multi-utility development, increased responsibility and long-term technical progression.

The Role:

  • Design of offsite / enabling utility infrastructure for new project awards (HV/LV / Gas / Water / Fibre)
  • Technical liaison with network operators and internal project teams through to energisation
  • Customer-facing post-award meetings to define scope (substations/OSCP, metering and associated plant)
  • Site/video/survey review, identifying constraints, trial holes and third-party/permit restrictions
  • Hybrid working available (role dependent), based from the Bury St Edmunds office

The Person:

  • Design engineering experience within at least one utility network (electric, gas, water, fibre, heat)
  • Experience supporting designs for new housing / mixed-use developments
  • Full UK driving licence
