A leading FMCG wholesaler and distributor in the Lancashire region is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to take ownership of a high‑profile product portfolio and drive commercial performance across a fast‑moving, growth‑oriented business. This is a key commercial role where you’ll shape category strategy, negotiate market‑leading terms, and deliver a competitive, profitable range for both retail and wholesale channels. As the business continues to grow and diversify, the role will evolve, offering genuine scope to make your mark.

About the Role

You will be responsible for developing and delivering a profitable, customer‑focused product range, using your strong market knowledge and supplier relationships to maximise value. The role combines strategic category management with hands‑on commercial delivery, including:

  • Managing the trading performance of multiple product categories, driving sales, margin and supplier income.
  • Leading supplier negotiations to secure the best cost prices, promotional opportunities and long‑term value.
  • Managing price files and ensuring accurate, competitive pricing across your categories.
  • Developing and executing promotional and seasonal plans to optimise sales and profitability.
  • Sourcing new products, brands and suppliers, while maintaining strong relationships with existing partners.
  • Benchmarking products and staying ahead of retail trends, competitor activity and market demands.

About You

You will bring a strong commercial background and a proven track record of delivering results in a fast‑paced retail, wholesale or FMCG environment. You should have:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in buying, trading or commercial roles within retail, wholesale or foodservice.
  • Experience managing product categories and delivering financial targets.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to close deals and secure value.
  • A track record of building sustainable supplier relationships and driving cost efficiencies.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Energy, pace and the drive to deliver results under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Experience within Beer, Wine, Spirits or wider BWS categories is advantageous but not essential, what matters most is your commercial acumen, supplier management capability and appetite to deliver.

What You’ll Get in Return

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary (dependent on experience) plus a comprehensive benefits package that includes car allowance, contributory pension, generous holiday allowance that increases with service, staff discount and a host of additional incentives and rewards. Just as importantly, you’ll be joining a long‑established, values‑driven business with a strong identity, where colleagues are encouraged to contribute ideas, challenge the status quo and make a meaningful impact.

What to Do Next

If you have the background, skills and commercial drive outlined above and you’re ready for a new challenge where you can make a genuine difference, please apply with an up‑to‑date CV.
