I'm seeking a talented Senior Buyer / Buying Manager to join a well-loved UK retailer who have established a strong reputation within the Home and DIY space. The ideal candidate will have experience buying General Merchandise and will be able to bring with them an established supplier network within their specialist category. This is a business that encourages its buyers to be entrepreneurial and creates opportunities for career development.
You will be responsible for developing and implementing the range strategy to maximise the budgeted financial business targets ensuring the right products are purchased at the correct prices and within the relevant time frames. Reporting into the Head of Retail, some of your duties will include:
- Responsible for maximising the delivery of the Sales / Margin & Stock turn of your category range to deliver a market beating product and seasonal proposition.
- Building & maintaining strong relationships with suppliers.
- Sourcing suppliers & negotiating best cost prices to improve margins.
- Responsible for buying both Own Brand and Branded ranges.
- Ensuring selected product lines achieve availability timeframes.
- Deliver an inviting & practical product range that is in line with current trends on design and lifestyle.
- Presenting product range & trend information to the Senior Management team.
- Monitoring & reviewing competitor information to ensure your product area stays relevant in a changing market.
- Working alongside other departments i.e. Marketing, eCommerce & Retail outlets to plan successful future lines.
- Managing your category budget.
- Analysing sales figures to plan successful future lines.
Key requirements for the role:
- Proven previous experience as a Buyer within General Merchandise categories such as Home, DIY, Tech, Electricals, & Seasonal.
- Ability to influence and negotiate effectively at all levels.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead a team.
- Able to adapt swiftly in a fast paced, ever changing seasonal retail market.
- Excellent numerical ability, with an analytical mindset.
- Strong IT skills including MS Office.
