We are working exclusively with an award-winning venture-backed scale-up working alongside industry-leading organisations in the rail sector to innovate and bring rail workers home safe every day. Our client has a requirement for a Project Manager with rail industry experience to join their team. They trust their project managers to own key client relationships. Therefore, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are paramount.
Their project managers support the deployment of IT technologies to managers, planners and track workers who have a wide range of technical competence. You will be expected to develop a deep understanding of the technologies so as you interact with planners and track workers and understand their day-to-day challenges, coach them and help them use the technology. You will also be ideally placed to explore how our products are used, uncover new use cases and value-adding product features, and suggest improvements.
As an experienced Project Manager who is diligent, focused on deployment and with strong rail industry knowledge, you will be comfortable generating your own momentum and coping with ambiguity. You will be commercially focused and have a solid risk management approach. Of course, all the basics of project management still need to be there: planning, managing risks, dependencies, issues, timelines, budgets, scope, deliverables, quality, etc.
This is a Scottish remote-based role with the expectation of client site visits around the country. Please note some client-facing work will take place at weekends and/or overnight during live deployment. We have excellent policies for expenses such as travel, accommodation and subsistence, as well as for fatigue management and time off in lieu (TOIL).
Your experience:
- You have solid experience in Project Management disciplines such as planning, managing risks, dependencies, issues, timelines, budgets, scope, deliverables, quality, etc.
- You have practical, hands-on experience of on-the-ground delivery of new technologies, to a range of different kinds of users with different levels of tech-savviness.
- You have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to influence clients and users, and turn them into advocates for products and services.
- You have a proven record of delivering multiple projects in parallel and prioritising tasks effectively, working cross-departmentally as well as supporting the coordination of client resources.
- You instinctively take initiative to find and fix problems, thinking out of the box to find ways to make things better.
- You are able to work at weekends and/or overnight when required, to support deployment to shift workers (TOIL and industry-wide fatigue rules apply).
- You have good experience with project management tools.
- You must be able to drive and have a full driving licence.
Rail experience is essential for this role.
