About The Role

Rippling is seeking a Deputy MLRO and Regulatory Lead within the Legal and Compliance team for its UK Payments entity, Rippling Payments UK Limited, an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The Deputy MLRO will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the institution against financial crime while ensuring the firm maintains its regulatory standing with the FCA.

This role is unique in its breadth, requiring a subject matter expert who can not only manage AML/CTF escalations but help support our EMI license and submission of critical regulatory returns. This position is an ideal progression for an AML/CTF specialist looking to broaden their Second Line of Defence expertise into comprehensive EMI license oversight and regulatory governance.

What You Will Do

  • Financial Crime Oversight & Deputising
  • AML/CTF Framework Maintenance: Support the MLRO in updating the firm’s AML/CTF policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds Regulations 2017;
  • SARs Framework: Lead the investigation of internal unusual activity reports; draft and prepare external Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) for MLRO approval and NCA submission;
  • Strategic Support: Act as the formal deputy to the MLRO, providing coverage during absences and representing the function at Risk Committees;
  • Escalation Management: Provide 2LoD adjudication on complex CDD/EDD cases, PEPs, and Sanctions alerts escalated by 1LOD Onboarding and Operations teams;
  • Audit & Review: Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and regulatory bodies during AML-specific reviews and data requests.
  • Outsourcing Oversight: Conduct regular reviews of outsourced service providers to ensure their workflows align with the firm’s AML/CTF policies;
  • Process Optimization: Lead the implementation of practical enhancements to policies and procedures to remediate any weaknesses in the AML/CTF and Sanctions control environment that may have been identified from Assurance audits;
  • Horizon Scanning: Monitor UK regulatory shifts, providing impact assessments on how changes will affect the firm’s permissions and licensing.
  • Training, Advisory & Management Information (MI)
    • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a firm-wide consultant for complex AML queries, delivering targeted training sessions to the 1LoD (Product, Operations, etc.) to address emerging risks;
    • MI & Board Reporting: Lead the aggregation of high-quality Management Information to track the effectiveness of the AML framework for Committee & Board reporting;
    • Data Integrity: Work with Data/Engineering teams to ensure the MI used for regulatory reporting is robust, auditable, and reconcilable.
    • Project Leadership: Spearhead one-off compliance projects, such as the implementation of new screening technologies or the refresh of the Firm-Wide Risk Assessment (FWRA) and RCSAs.

    What you will need

    • 5+ years of experience in AML, financial crime or compliance within a financial services setting;
    • Strong understanding of AML/CTF risk management frameworks, governance models, and UK AML/CTF regulatory expectations;
    • Knowledge of the Electronic Money Regulations, Payment Services Regulations Consumer Duty and financial crime expectations for UK EMIs;
    • Experience with customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, Sanctions and risk-based assessments;
    • Understanding of suspicious activity indicators;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex compliance concepts into clear, actionable insights;
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and stakeholders simultaneously;
    • Proven ability to operate with autonomy, sound judgment, and discretion in a fast-paced environment;
    • Experience contributing to the development or enhancement of compliance policies, frameworks, or operating models is strongly preferred;
    • ICA Diploma in Financial Crime/Compliance or ACAMS (Highly Desirable).
