An established Daventry manufacturer of specialist fabricated steel structures for vehicle applications is looking for an experienced Design Engineer to sit with their on-site production and fabrication team. You will turn customer requirements into 3D CAD and manufacturing drawings, then see those parts through laser, CNC, weld and build. A lot of the work is tubular and sheet fabrications, plus machined parts, often reverse-engineered from an existing vehicle or structure. Key responsibilities Produce 3D CAD and detailed manufacturing drawings for tube, sheet and machined parts Work daily with welders, machinists and the fabrication team to get designs built Reverse-engineer and measure existing structures (CMM / portable metrology) so new work fits first time Support quality, production and occasional site visits, as you would in a small manufacturer Deal with customers on design intent, tolerances and practical manufacturing What we are looking for Experience working as a mechanical / fabrication design engineer in a design-and-make shop, issuing CAD and manufacturing drawings to a weld / CNC / fabrication team HNC Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (HND or degree useful) Strong 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or Inventor) Used to designing welded fabrications: tubular work, chassis, trailers, exhausts, plant equipment or similar Comfortable on the shop floor and with measurement / inspection Full UK driving licence, as site visits come up Backgrounds from trailer, chassis, exhaust, agricultural or specialist vehicle fabrication are desirable.
