Job Purpose:
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, building, managing, and supporting the infrastructure services that underpin Ripe’s digital operations.
This includes maintaining and optimizing IT infrastructure to support business needs, protecting systems from cyber threats and ensuring compliance, working with technologies like AWS and Azure, overseeing upgrades, migrations, and new implementations, and providing and supporting teams with troubleshooting and best practices.
Principal Accountabilities:
Strategic Planning
- Developing engineering roadmaps to ensure technologies and services remain future-proof and aligned with business needs.
Technical Leadership
- Leading infrastructure teams in building, managing, and maintaining solutions according to departmental policies.
- Owning operational relationships with suppliers to ensure services and products meet industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Systems Design & Integration
- Working with technical architects (internal and external) to translate architectural designs into operational solutions.
Security & Compliance
- Ensuring infrastructure solutions are designed with security controls embedded to mitigate threats.
- Monitoring and staying ahead of all security related recommendations.
- Investigating, resolving, and anticipating infrastructure-related issues while implementing preventative measures.
Governance & Best Practices
- Establishing standards and procedures across the service lifecycle and ensuring adherence to best practices.

Experience Requirements
- Demonstrable experience in managing infrastructure in high-availability environments
- Proven track record of managing cloud based platforms
- A solid understanding of security best practise such as NIST
- Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently
- A proven ability to lead and mentor junior engineers and foster a collaborative team environment
- Familiar with emerging technologies like AI tools, automation frameworks, and DevOps practices
- ITIL v3 foundation or above
- A demonstrable understanding of Project Management working practices
- MS Security suite
- AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for scalable infrastructure management
- VMware or Hyper-V for efficient resource allocation
- Firewalls, VPNs, and network protocols to ensure secure connectivity
- PowerShell, or Bash for automating tasks
- DevOps

Professional Requirements
- Technical Expertise: Experience in high-availability environments, large-scale data centres, or cloud-based platforms.

- Problem-Solving & Leadership: Strong analytical skills, ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, and leadership experience in guiding teams.
- Certifications: Industry-recognised certifications such as CISSP, ITIL Master, VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX), or AWS/Azure Solutions Architect can be valuable.
Education:
A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
A minimum of 5 GSCE’s or equivalent including Maths and English
Educated to ‘A’ level or other equivalent professional qualification
