Develop specialist expertise across health, retirement, insurance, leave, wellbeing, governance and benefits technology. Build a pathway into broader Benefits, Reward and employee-services roles while contributing to enterprise improvement initiatives.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Adviser Benefits Operations to deliver high-quality benefits administration, employee advice and operational support across health, retirement, insurance, leave and wellbeing programs. You will apply policy and eligibility rules with sound judgement, resolve standard and moderately complex cases, coordinate with benefits providers and maintain accurate data across employee and vendor systems. This is a great opportunity for an experienced benefits or Human Resources operations professional who enjoys helping employees, solving operational issues and improving service quality within clear policy and governance frameworks.

What you’ll be doing

  • Execute benefits administration across enrolments, eligibility, employee changes, claims support and lifecycle events for health, retirement, insurance, leave and wellbeing programs.
  • Apply benefits policies, eligibility rules and local requirements with judgement, providing employees and stakeholders with clear guidance on coverage, processes and expected outcomes.
  • Resolve standard and moderately complex benefits cases independently, escalating high-risk, policy-sensitive or unresolved matters through the appropriate channels.
  • Coordinate with insurers, retirement providers, health providers and wellbeing partners to resolve employee issues and maintain reliable service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate benefits records and transactions across Workday, benefits administration systems, vendor portals, payroll interfaces and employee self-service platforms.
  • Perform validations, reconciliations and quality checks to identify discrepancies and protect the accuracy of enrolments, deductions, coverage and reporting data.
  • Support annual enrolment, renewal and program-change activities, including system updates, process adjustments, employee communications and vendor coordination.
  • Identify and implement practical improvements that increase process efficiency, accuracy, standardisation, automation and employee experience.

About you

We’re looking for someone whose experience aligns with the key requirements below. You do not need to meet every “helpful for success” item to apply, if you bring relevant experience and are excited by the opportunity, we encourage you to submit an application.

Required for Success

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Benefits Knowledge: Practical experience administering or advising on employee benefits such as health, retirement, insurance, leave or wellbeing programs.
  • Policy Application: Ability to interpret benefits policies and eligibility rules, apply them consistently and use judgement in moderately complex operational scenarios.
  • Data and Controls: Experience processing transactions, validating data, completing reconciliations and maintaining accurate employee or benefits records.
  • Systems: Experience using Human Resources systems such as Workday, benefits administration platforms, vendor portals, payroll systems or employee self-service tools.
  • Employee and Stakeholder Service: Experience resolving employee enquiries, coordinating with providers and communicating benefits processes in a clear, supportive and timely way.

Helpful for Success

  • Experience supporting annual benefits enrolment, renewal, vendor transition or program-change activities.
  • Knowledge of benefits governance, compliance requirements, service-level agreements or operational controls.
  • Background in benefits administration, Human Resources operations, employee services, shared services, payroll support or customer operations.

What we offer

  • Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you’ve helped the world progress.
  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority.
  • A permanent position working directly for Rio Tinto.
  • A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience, with an annual incentive program.
  • Comprehensive medical benefits, including subsidised private health insurance for employees and their immediate family.
  • Attractive share ownership plan.
  • Company provided insurance cover.
  • Extensive salary sacrifice & salary packaging options.
  • Career development and education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitions.
  • Ongoing access to family-friendly health, medical and wellbeing support.
  • Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave).
  • Exclusive employee discounts (banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more).
