Strategic finance leadership role providing insights to the Africa and Eurasia exploration team to support decision making. Role based in Reading, United Kingdom.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced finance leader to partner with the Exploration Director and senior leadership team across the Africa and Eurasia Exploration region. The role provides end-to-end financial leadership across all regional activities including managing joint venture relationships, entering and exiting countries within the region, developing annual financial plans, and providing objective analysis to inform decision making. You will also lead and develop a team of Finance Business Partners (FBPs) across the Africa and Eurasia region. Reporting to the Senior Manager FBP Exploration, you will:
- Partner with stakeholders to proactively drive financial analysis, cost discipline and influence outcomes through providing a decision framework supported by insightful and objective analysis.
- Foster strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders across multiple technical disciplines, other regional FBP teams, Functions and Group Finance.
- Institute and maintain cost leadership rituals to ensure operational excellence.
- Support leaders to develop and deliver their annual financial plans and short-term forecasts (forward plans).
- Connector across the business in applying enterprise Finance frameworks.
- Lead, coach and develop a diverse and high performing finance Africa and Eurasia FBP team.
- Promote and embed a continuous improvement mindset to enable change, transformation and stronger business outcomes.
- Ensure governance and compliance through effective application of financial controls and risk management.
- Provide reporting for incorporated and unincorporated entities and joint ventures.
- Lead local SAP implementations (where relevant) and alignment to the wider Rio Tinto processes.
About you

- Bachelor’s degree in a financial discipline.
- Professional qualification MBA, ACA, CPA, CMA.
- Demonstrated ability to positively influence and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, and to navigate and solve complex financial issues.
- Credibility to provide considered commercial, strategic and tactical advice to senior leaders.
- Relevant experience in management reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
- Genuine curiosity for understanding detailed business performance and using that understanding to develop insights and improvement initiatives.
- Proven ability to lead, coach and develop the FBP team, improving skill sets and effectiveness.
- Experience in governance, compliance, and risk management (highly beneficial).

Where you’ll be working
This role will directly support the Africa and Eurasia Exploration team and be a member of the dedicated Safety, Development & Technical FBP team that reports through to the Group CFO. Rio Tinto Exploration discovers and safely delivers high-quality growth options for Rio Tinto, spanning exploration, project development, technical excellence, mergers and acquisitions, business development through to country exits. Your direct manager is based in Salt Lake City, Utah (USA) and you will work closely with peers and the broader Exploration FBP teams across multiple global locations, including North and South America, Eurasia, Africa, and Australia.
