We’re Finding Better Ways™ to provide materials the world needs, now and in the future. Our values – care, courage and curiosity – guide how we work and how we treat each other.

About the role:

We are looking for a Reward Principal Advisor with deep expertise in Reward design to support a portfolio of strategic initiatives over a 12‑month period. This role focuses on shaping and evolving executive reward architecture to support business strategy, performance outcomes and leadership retention. Operating as a senior technical advisor, you will bring strong judgement, market insight and design capability to complex executive reward questions. This is a great opportunity for a motivated Reward specialist who enjoys working at the front end of design — setting direction, testing options and developing solutions.

Working in a collaborative Reward community, a challenging and exciting environment, you will:

  • Act as a principal technical expert on Reward design, providing leadership on structure, calibration and differentiation of executive pay outcomes.
  • Lead the design and evolution of pay and incentive architectures, policies and market-competitive reward strategies to support retention, differentiation and integration activities.
  • Apply deep market insight and external best practice to inform design choices, trade‑offs and future‑looking options.
  • Partner closely with senior Reward leaders, Finance and HR to align design with business strategy, financial outcomes and talent priorities.
  • Develop high‑quality design materials, papers and recommendations to support senior decision‑making on Reward structure and approach.
  • Provide technical coaching and challenge to Reward SMEs and advisors, lifting overall capability and design maturity across the team.

About you:

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Extensive experience in Reward design, ideally in a large, complex listed organisation.
  • Strong technical grounding across executive pay architecture, incentive design, performance frameworks and market benchmarking.
  • Proven ability to shape and evaluate Reward design options, balancing competitiveness, affordability, performance alignment and stakeholder expectations.
  • Confidence operating as a senior advisor, influencing outcomes through expertise.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to turn complex reward problems into clear, pragmatic design solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate reward design thinking clearly and credibly to senior stakeholders.
  • Solid project management capability, including planning, risk management, governance and change delivery – will be highly regarded.

If you are applying for the role based in the province of Quebec, fluency in French and English, both written and spoken, is required.

What we offer:

  • Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you’ve helped the world progress.
  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority.
  • A competitive salary package with annual cash incentive awards for eligible employees.
  • Career development & education assistance to further your ambitions.
  • Access to top tier family-friendly health and medical programs and pension plan.
  • Wellbeing benefits.
  • Generous Rio Tinto employee share program.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Ongoing individual wellbeing support for you and your family for personal and professional matters.
  • Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave).
