About the role

We are looking for a Director, Controls and Assurance to manage and lead Rio Tinto’s SOX compliance framework, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and driving continuous improvement.

This is a great opportunity for a proactive, detail-oriented, and strategic individual to shape the success of SOX compliance at a global scale.

Reporting to the General Manager, Controls and Assurance and working in a collaborative community within the Controls and Assurance Team, you will be:

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining Rio Tinto’s SOX compliance framework, ensuring alignment with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and regulatory requirements
  • Leading and reviewing the SOX scoping exercise and the annual risk assessment update
  • Partnering with process and control owners to design and document effective internal controls for financial reporting (ICFR)
  • Overseeing the execution of control testing and ensuring seamless coordination with external auditors
  • Managing the remediation process, including root cause analysis and follow-up testing for deficiencies
  • Developing and delivering SOX compliance training programs for employees
  • Preparing and presenting regular updates on SOX programme status and remediation progress to leadership and external auditors
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives in the SOX programme, including process standardization and technology enablement

Where you’ll be working

Rio Tinto’s global headquarters is situated in St. James’s Square, in the City of Westminster, London, on the edge of the West End, and is the site of the group’s original head office. Located over several floors, the office is truly a global hub for the business and is the base for many members of the Executive Committee. As such, the grade II listed office reflects the vibrancy of the location, although it also overlooks the tranquillity of the only garden square in the district and is a short walk from Green Park and Piccadilly underground stations.
