Job Role

Ringway is seeking an experienced Supervisor (Street Lighting & Electrical) to join our National Highways East contract based in Birchanger. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated highways professional to lead the delivery of street lighting and electrical maintenance activities across a key section of the strategic road network.

Reporting into the management team, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and overseeing reactive, cyclic and maintenance works, ensuring operations are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with contractual requirements. You'll play a key role in supporting operational teams, managing subcontractors and driving high standards of service delivery, safety and compliance.

Duties

As Supervisor, you will take frontline responsibility for the successful delivery of street lighting and highway electrical works across the contract.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising operational teams and subcontractors to achieve productivity, quality and safety targets.
  • Planning and coordinating reactive, maintenance and cyclic works.
  • Arranging roadspace bookings and traffic management requirements.
  • Managing materials, plant, equipment and stock requirements to support operational delivery.
  • Producing work packs in line with company procedures and contract requirements.
  • Requesting and reviewing statutory utility drawings ahead of excavation works.
  • Reviewing and managing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Conducting site inspections, compliance checks and depot audits.
  • Ensuring workforce competency remains compliant with HEA Highways Electrical Registration Scheme requirements.
  • Supporting the development and performance of operatives and subcontractors.
  • Promoting strong communication, collaboration and team engagement across the contract.
  • Using bespoke software and digital systems to support efficient service delivery.
  • Reviewing subcontractor costs and communicating commercial impacts where required.
  • Maintaining a strong focus on health, safety and environmental standards at all times.

Person Specification

To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience supervising Street Lighting or Highway Electrical operations and a strong understanding of maintenance delivery within the highways sector.

You will possess:

  • Experience within Street Lighting, Highway Electrical or related infrastructure maintenance environments.
  • Knowledge of traffic management requirements and operational planning.
  • Strong understanding of safe systems of work, including excavation activities, work at height and working around electrical infrastructure.
  • The ability to organise, coordinate and prioritise multiple activities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and team management.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and operational software systems.
  • The ability to work independently and make informed operational decisions.

Desirable Qualifications

  • CITB SMSTS or SSSTS
  • ECS Highway Electrical Health & Safety Assessment
  • Emergency First Aid
  • NHSS8 Certification
  • Other relevant Highway Electrical Association (HEA) qualifications
