Ringway Infrastructure Services is looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our London Projects Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a highways design professional who wants to remain hands-on with design whilst also supporting, mentoring and developing junior engineers and technicians. Working on behalf of Transport for London and London Borough clients, you'll play a key role in delivering a diverse range of highway improvement schemes across the capital.

The role is primarily design focused, requiring someone who is passionate about technical delivery rather than moving solely into management. You'll lead and support the design of highway and transport schemes from concept through to construction whilst ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with client expectations.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Senior Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for the design and delivery of a wide variety of highways projects across London, including carriageway and footway improvements, bus infrastructure schemes, cycle routes, junction improvements and public realm projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing and reviewing highway design drawings, specifications and reports.
  • Acting as Design Lead across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Leading designs through the full project lifecycle.
  • Managing project programmes and design delivery milestones.
  • Supporting and mentoring engineers, graduates and technicians.
  • Ensuring designs are safe, buildable and compliant with relevant standards.
  • Supporting delegated Principal Designer duties in accordance with CDM regulations.
  • Liaising with clients, stakeholders and internal operational teams.
  • Providing design assurance and technical guidance across the wider team.
  • Supporting commercial performance, forecasting and delivery against framework requirements.

About You

We're looking for someone with a strong background in highways design who combines technical expertise with the ability to support and develop others. You will ideally have:

  • Experience delivering highways design schemes within London or similar urban environments.
  • Strong knowledge of UK highway design standards.
  • Previous experience working within consultancy, contractor or framework environments.
  • Experience designing carriageway, footway, cycling, bus and public realm schemes.
  • Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and highway safety requirements.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercial awareness and programme management capability.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and industry-standard highway design software.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Significant highways design experience.
  • Strong technical design capability within highways and transportation projects.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Chartered or working towards Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status (CEng/IEng).
  • Experience working under TfL frameworks, HMpF or similar contracts.
  • Experience using KeySign, AutoTrack and Civil 3D.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
