We are seeking a committed and detail focused Highways Inspector to join our Gloucestershire Division. This role plays a key part in ensuring the safety, quality and resilience of the local highway network. You will be responsible for conducting statutory safety inspections, gathering network intelligence and identifying defects, enabling timely and appropriate interventions across the network.
As a Highways Inspector, you will deliver statutory safety and asset condition inspections in accordance with the Assess and Decide policy. You will use your local knowledge and technical expertise to identify risks, assess defects and contribute to planned works programmes. Working closely with Local Network Teams, you will help ensure the network remains safe, well maintained and compliant with all relevant standards and regulations. You will take ownership of your inspection routes, utilise technology to record accurate information and ensure all work supports the organisation’s commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct statutory safety inspections and asset condition inspections
- Identify, assess and categorise defects in line with the Assess and Decide policy
- Collate and provide intelligence to support Cat 2 and Cat 3 works proposals
- Contribute to service planning and the Annual Planned Works Programme
- Use technology based equipment to collect and transfer accurate data
- Apply knowledge of inspection manuals, codes of practice and highway maintenance standards
- Promote and observe Health and Safety standards at all times
- Demonstrate “Network Pride” by proactively addressing issues before they escalate
- Support colleagues and uphold the organisation’s Vision and Values
