Arboricultural Officer
London Borough of Hounslow
Onsite and office-based (6 Month FTC, Option to go Permanent)
Job Role
Ringway, a trusted provider of highways services to the public sector, is seeking an Arboricultural Officer to focus on the Public Highway Network.
You will ensure the health, safety, and sustainability of the borough’s tree assets, contributing to the overall enhancement of public spaces. From managing individual trees and woodlands to advising on large-scale maintenance programmes, you will play a pivotal role in protecting and improving Hounslow’s tree stock while promoting environmental awareness within the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead arboricultural management across the borough’s highway tree assets, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and the Corporate Tree Management Strategy.
- Develop and implement comprehensive arboricultural management plans, local policies, and procedures to protect biodiversity and enhance the urban landscape.
- Survey, monitor, and maintain the tree inventory database, recording inspections, maintenance, and management activities.
- Advise colleagues, residents, and stakeholders on the management and maintenance of highway trees.
- Commission and supervise tree works, including planting, pruning, and remedial maintenance, ensuring quality and value for money.
- Prepare regular reports on tree conditions and management activities for internal and external stakeholders.
- Engage with the local community and stakeholders to raise awareness of tree management and promote responsible practices.
- Represent Hounslow Highways at site inspections, consultations, and public meetings, providing technical arboricultural advice.
- Assist with non-arboricultural operations when required, including landscape works or additional scheme projects.
- Promote safe working practices, adhere to Health and Safety regulations, and ensure compliance with the Council’s climate change and sustainability initiatives.
About You
- Proven experience in arboriculture, ideally within public highway or urban tree management.
- Strong knowledge of tree physiology, health, and safety legislation, with the ability to apply it across multiple sites.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence addressing colleagues, residents, and Councillors.
- Skilled in survey techniques, tree inspection, and the use of tree inventory software.
- Proactive, solutions-focused, and committed to promoting sustainability and biodiversity.
- Willingness to travel across the borough as required, with a full UK driving licence preferred.
