The Senior Design Engineer leads the development, coordination, and delivery of highway maintenance & improvement schemes from early contractor involvement (ECI) through mobilisation and construction. This role combines engineering design, project management, statutory compliance, and stakeholder coordination to ensure schemes are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the required technical standards and in accordance with Ringway Policies and Vinci principles. The position provides technical leadership within the team and supports the continuous improvement of design and delivery processes across the service.

Duties:

  • Deliver highway projects from design through construction.
  • Manage programmes, costs, risks and reporting.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
  • Produce/review designs and ensure compliance with DMRB, Red Book, TSRGD and CDM.
  • Prepare CPPs, RAMS, permits and TTRO/TTRN submissions.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities and stakeholders.
  • Support cost estimating, forecasting and variations.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Strong highways engineering / project delivery experience.
  • Knowledge of SoR, Target Estimates, DMRB, TSRGD, CDM, HASAWA.
  • Ability to manage multiple schemes.
  • AutoCAD + MS Office proficiency.
  • Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Local authority experience (Hertfordshire beneficial).
  • Mentoring / supervisory experience.
  • NEC contract knowledge.

Hours: Full Time – 45 hours, Monday to Friday
