We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Tree Inspector to join our team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the proactive management and inspection of trees across our highway network, with a strong focus on identifying, assessing, and managing Ash Dieback disease (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus).

You will be responsible for safeguarding public safety, supporting sustainable tree management, and ensuring compliance with legal and environmental obligations.

Duties
  • Carry out detailed tree inspections across the highway network, open spaces, and other areas of responsibility.
  • Identify, assess, and record the presence and progression of Ash Dieback disease, making evidence-based recommendations for management.
  • Maintain accurate digital records of inspections, risk assessments, and tree management actions.
  • Provide professional advice to internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders on tree health, safety, and management strategies.
  • Support the development and implementation of Ash Dieback action plans, including prioritisation of works and replanting strategies.
  • Liaise with contractors and oversee works to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Contribute to biodiversity, sustainability, and climate resilience initiatives through tree replacement and management schemes.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant health & safety regulations, legislation, and industry best practice.
Person Specification
  • Recognised qualification in Arboriculture or demonstrable experience in tree inspection and surveying, particularly in relation to dieback disease.
  • Knowledge of tree risk assessment methodologies (e.g. QTRA, THREATS, VALID).
  • Strong understanding of current legislation, standards, and best practice in arboriculture and tree management.
  • Ability to use GIS/digital data capture tools for recording inspections.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Professional membership of the Arboricultural Association or Institute of Chartered Foresters.
  • Experience working within highways, local authority, or large infrastructure environments.
  • Chainsaw and aerial tree work qualifications (NPTC or equivalent) – not essential but advantageous.
  • Knowledge of wider biosecurity risks and pest/disease management strategies.

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full Time - 40 hours – Monday to Friday
