The role of Senior Bridge Engineer involves the design, implementation, and management of structure replacement, refurbishment, and improvement schemes within Cheshire East. The applicant will utilise their expertise in Design, DMRB, MCHW, and Eurocodes to develop high-quality solutions for highway structure challenges.
Working alongside the Structures Manager and supervising junior staff, the position requires a strong background in highway structures and a proven track record in project delivery. Reporting to the Structures Manager, the Senior Engineer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing assigned schemes. The role requires collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders, making relationship-building an essential aspect of the position.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, design, plan and programme highway structures works and services.
- Provide clear and effective project leadership.
- Provide assistance in the management and monitoring of works programmes or services.
- Plan and deliver work safely in accordance with CDM and Health and Safety policy.
- Mentoring junior staff and checking their work.
- Assist in budgetary control and ensure that financial management is undertaken throughout their allocated projects.
- Prepare monthly progress reports and programme updates.
- Assist the Team Leader in providing accurate, timely advice on structures-related matters to councillors, parish councils, and the public.
- Support Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management Systems, ensuring compliance with Cheshire East Highways policies to minimize work-related injuries.
- From time-to-time lead on specific projects or processes beyond core structures work.
About You
- Hold a valid driving licence.
- Design expertise with Eurocodes and modern standards, DMRB.
- Working knowledge of preparation of contract specifications, use of MCHW.
- Extensive knowledge and application of Highway Legislation, relevant structures design procedures, standards and good practice.
- Knowledge and experience of budgetary governance, management and control measures.
- Knowledge and application of Health and Safety legislation including Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
- Conversant with Microsoft applications – Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
- Experience and good working knowledge of structural software.
- Experience of leading and mentoring junior engineers in the delivery of highway structures projects.
