We are looking for two proactive Local Highways Officers to join our Maintenance team, acting as the public face of Cheshire East Highways. In this vital role, you will handle local enquiries and service requests, engage with the community (including parish and town councils), and ensure that highway maintenance works are identified, ordered, and delivered in line with policy, contract requirements, and business objectives. You will work both independently and as part of a team to maintain a high level of customer service, ensure a safe highway network, and help deliver continuous improvements across the service.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and respond to enquiries and service requests for your local area.
- Conduct inspections and investigations to determine appropriate actions.
- Meet with customers on-site, explain technical issues clearly, and manage expectations.
- Build strong relationships with town and parish councils and local community groups.
- Develop and implement solutions to support and improve service delivery.
- Order maintenance works and produce high-quality documentation.
- Support responses to highway incidents, emergencies, and adverse weather events.
- Contribute to team improvements, innovation, and excellent customer outcomes.
About You
- Full UK driving licence (essential).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong IT skills, especially Microsoft Office; GIS experience desirable.
- Experience engaging with customers, including in challenging situations.
- Knowledge of highway maintenance methods and techniques (desirable).
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and use initiative under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and relationship-building abilities.
- HNC in Construction or equivalent (desirable).
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including CDM (desirable).
