We are seeking a skilled and motivated Engineer to lead the design and delivery of structure replacement, refurbishment, and improvement schemes across Essex. Drawing on your expertise in highway structures and working knowledge of DMRB, MCHW, and Eurocodes, you will be responsible for delivering innovative, high-quality solutions to complex infrastructure challenges.
Working closely with the Team Leader and supporting junior staff, you will play a key role in project execution—bringing both technical expertise and leadership to the team. This position carries full responsibility for planning, coordinating, and managing assigned schemes, requiring close collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential to success in this role.
The Role
- Prepare designs, plans, and programmes for highway structures works and related services.
- Provide clear and effective project leadership.
- Assist in the management and monitoring of work programmes and service delivery.
- Plan and deliver work safely, in accordance with CDM regulations and Health & Safety policies.
- Mentor junior staff and review their work for quality and compliance.
About You
- Design expertise using Eurocodes and modern standards, including DMRB.
- Working knowledge of contract specification preparation and use of the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW).
- Extensive knowledge and practical application of highway legislation, structural design procedures, standards, and best practices.
- Experience in budget governance, financial management, and cost control measures.
- Sound knowledge and application of health and safety legislation, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
