Cheshire East Highways is seeking a motivated Apprentice Highways Operative to join our dedicated maintenance team based at our Brunswick Wharf depot in Congleton. This is an excellent opportunity to build a solid foundation for a long-term career in the highways industry while gaining hands-on experience in a real working environment. Throughout this two-year apprenticeship, you'll work alongside experienced professionals, developing practical skills, industry knowledge, and a clear understanding of how highway maintenance supports local communities by keeping roads safe and operational. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will progress into a Highways Maintenance Operative role, opening the door to further career development and progression within Ringway Jacobs.

The Role

  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of carriageways and footways, ensuring all work is accurately recorded using hand-held devices.
  • Understand and follow health and safety procedures to ensure your own safety and the safety of others.
  • Learn how to operate equipment and tools safely.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure works are completed on time and to standard.
  • Undertake highways specific training courses as appropriate to ensure understanding and compliance.

About You

  • Formal qualifications are not required to be enrolled onto the apprenticeship, however you must achieve level 1 in Maths and English before the end point assessment and take the test for level 2, or provide a certificate of equivalent prior achievement such as GCSEs.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Regular travel to college.
