Foreship is a 100 strong international ship design and marine engineering consultancy, specialising in naval architecture, energy transition, sustainability, stability, performance optimisation and project engineering. The company leads newbuild and conversion projects, supporting a wide portfolio in the ferry, cruise, cargo, offshore and alternative fuels sectors. Since opening in 2022, Foreship UK has rapidly expanded, completing over 200 projects and contributing to major innovation initiatives across the UK Maritime sector.

Marine Systems Engineer needed to join Foreship UK. You will contribute engineering expertise across vessel propulsion, auxiliary machinery, machinery spaces, HVAC/hotel systems, and wider ship system integration. Based out of our Southampton (HQ), Foreship UK operates a hybrid working model, though you will be required to travel or shipboard across the UK and internationally occasionally.

Responsibilities:

  • Support feasibility, concept, basic and detailed design stages;
  • Translate customer requirements into practical, class-compliant engineering solutions;
  • Ensure high-quality delivery that supports Foreship's reputation for technical excellence in the cruise, ferry, yacht and wider maritime domains;
  • Undertake marine systems engineering work across concept, basic and detailed design stages, covering propulsion machinery, auxiliary systems and hotel/HVAC systems;
  • Produce technical drawings, calculations, specifications and engineering documentation suitable for class/flag submissions and client reviews;
  • Support feasibility studies, concept development, conversion projects and vessel modifications;
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines to deliver coordinated, integrated system designs;
  • Engage with equipment suppliers and makers to clarify system requirements and ensure correct integration of machinery and components.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • BEng/MEng in Marine Engineering (or equivalent);
  • 2-3 years professional experience in marine systems engineering for marine vessels;
  • Working knowledge of major class rule set (DNV, LR, ABS, BV);
  • Proficiency in engineering tools (e.g. STAR-CCM, ANSYS, Rhino/AutoCAD);
  • Ability to produce clear, client ready documentation and communicate results effectively;
  • Prepared to travel for occasional surveys, trials, and yard support.
