Job description: RINA is currently recruiting for an Electrical Power Earthing & Lightning Protection Technician to join its office in Manchester within the Power & Energy Solutions Division. The Electrical Technician works within the Power / Earthing & Lightning Protection (E&LP) Unit and reports to the Head of E&LP. You will support the E&LP team in servicing their client base, providing solutions to earthing & lightning protection projects across diverse sectors. The role will be based at the Stoke-on-Trent office and will involve frequent travel to client substation locations UK Wide, as well as equipment maintenance and site team support functions from the office / workshop.

You will be working on the UK's most critical and complex installations which power the country. If you are keen to travel (UK wide expenses paid), have a strong work ethic, are hands-on and have a can-do attitude, you will find this position most fulfilling and technically progressive. On the job training will be provided.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Site Measurements: Assisting with site-based electrical testing of earthing systems at electrical substations, power stations and for renewable energy projects; Site-based electrical soil resistivity surveys for new and existing high voltage installations; Recording and dissemination of data gathered on site; Ability to carry out dynamic quality checking of site data to ensure high standards are maintained.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Site Work Support Functions: Carry out regular proactive maintenance of site equipment including checking for damage and cleaning; Organise the workshop area and keep tidy; Make repairs to defective site equipment; Organise off-site repair of major defects; Make up new equipment or liaise with manufacturers to achieve this; Arrange calibration of test instrumentation; Coordinate site team PPE orders and manage stock levels; Carry out routine checks on site vehicles and coordinate MOT / servicing, repairs, etc.

Profile description:

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Essential Electrical related technical qualification - NVQ, apprenticeship, BTEC, etc;
  • At least 1 year's experience in an electrical related job;
  • A full, clean driving license - the successful candidate will be expected to drive company pool vehicles to sites across the UK;
  • Able and willing to attend client sites at various locations around the UK to perform physically demanding earth testing work;
  • Willing to stay away from home for short periods, e.g. 2 to 4 nights per week, while carrying out site testing.
