As a Structural Engineer within Foreship UK, you will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient and class‑compliant structural solutions across a wide portfolio of vessel types, including cruise ships, ferries, yachts and specialist marine assets. Based out of our Southampton (HQ), Leatherhead, Chippenham or Manchester offices, Foreship UK operates a hybrid working model, though you will be required to travel or shipboard across the UK and internationally occasionally.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and verify hull and superstructure scantlings, local and global strength, buckling, vibration and fatigue assessments against class rules (DNV, LR, ABS, BV) and relevant standards.
- Build and run FEA models (global and sub‑model) to support direct strength/fatigue checks for newbuilds and conversions.
- Produce structural concepts, arrangement drawings, calculation notes and reports suitable for class submission and client decision.
- Engineer retrofit and conversion structures ensuring safe integration with existing structure and systems.
- Calculate steel weight estimates and material take‑offs; support cost/constructability trade‑offs with yards and suppliers.
- Provide shipyard and onboard support.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- BEng/MEng/MSc in Naval Architecture (or equivalent).
- 3-5 years professional experience in stability analysis for marine vessels (i.e. passenger, ferry, yacht, other large structured commercial or naval vessels).
- Working knowledge of at least one major class rule set (DNV, LR, ABS, BV) and associated ship structural standards/codes.
- Strong proficiency in structural tools (e.g., NAPA Steel, FEMAP/NX Nastran or ANSYS, Rhino/AutoCAD).
- Ability to produce clear, client‑ready documentation and communicate results effectively.
- Prepared to travel for occasional surveys, trials, and yard support.
- You must be a British citizen or have the right to work in the UK without employer sponsorship.
