RINA is looking for a Graduate Electrical Engineer with at least 1 year’s experience to join its growing Power Systems consultancy capability. The team designs and delivers complex Substation Design, Protection and Power Systems Studies engagements for large power and electricity corporations, DNOs, utility companies and Data Center operators. This role will be based out of our Manchester office, though RINA operates a smart/hybrid working organisation. Moderate travel across the UK is required.
The Role
You will support a broad range of electrical engineering projects such as substation design, grid capacity/integration, high voltage power line design and other sustainable engineering initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to become an Electrical Power Systems specialist developing modern and sustainable solutions.
Role Responsibilities:
- Support Senior Consultants in the development of electrical power system designs for utility, industrial, and commercial facilities.
- Assist with preparation of engineering calculations including load studies, short-circuit analysis, voltage drop, grounding, and cable ampacity evaluations.
- Contribute to preparation of drawings and design packages including single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams and equipment layouts.
- Develop, update and review technical documentation such as specifications, equipment data sheets, study reports, and design narratives.
- Perform power system modelling tasks under supervision using approved software tools (e.g., load flow, fault studies, protection coordination, arc-flash analysis).
- Support protection and control design activities including relay settings development and functional descriptions.
- Assist with substation and distribution design tasks including equipment sizing, conduit and cable routing, grounding layouts, and bill of materials development.
- Participate in site visits and field data collection activities to verify existing conditions and support design development.
- Assist in development of test plans, commissioning checklists, and energisation procedures.
Role Requirements:
- Electrical Engineering graduate (Meng, CEng and/or PhD).
- At least 1 year’s commercial experience as an Electrical Engineer.
- Have working knowledge with any of the following: DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, PSSE, MATLAB/Simulink.
- Python experience is highly preferable.
- Demonstrable and strong analytical & problem-solving capabilities with the ability to develop practical and innovative engineering solutions.
- Ability to evaluate issues within a broader system context and understand cross-disciplinary impacts.
- Must be eligible to work within the UK without employer sponsorship.
- Willing to commute or relocate to Manchester.
