Role Description

This is a full-time, on‑site role for a Technical Sales Manager based in Basildon. The candidate will estimate and calculate piece prices for potential new business, manage the entire quotation process, oversee the manufacture of tooling for successful bids, and ensure smooth introduction and transition of new business. As the TSM you will manage your own schedule, build relationships with potential customers, and maintain existing relationships. This position requires flexibility for off‑site meetings with potential customers. Working hours – Monday to Thursday: 8 am - 5 pm; Friday: 8 am - 1 pm.

TSM Responsibilities

  • Identify new business opportunities that align with the company's manufacturing capabilities.
  • Accurately estimate and calculate piece prices for potential new business opportunities, ensuring competitive and profitable pricing strategies.
  • Define and outline detailed tool specifications and seek quotations from toolmakers.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive quotations to customers.
  • Oversee manufacturing of tooling for successful quotations, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the highest quality standards.
  • Manage the introduction of new business, ensuring a smooth transition from initial quotation to full production while maintaining strong customer relationships.
  • Provide technical support to the mould shop, offering expertise on processing, tooling, and materials.
  • Manage repair and modification of existing tooling when necessary.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding their needs and providing tailored solutions, including visit reports and updates to ensure continuous growth and performance.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of marketing strategies to help support business growth.
  • Support and manage apprentices from local college to help invest in the future at Rimplas.

TSM Requirements

  • Background within engineering & relevant qualifications preferred (HND/Degree) but not essential.
  • Understanding of injection moulding process & polymers.
  • Experience in post‑moulding operations including painting, inserting, and mechanical assembly would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of engineering structural foam moulding (ESF) and reaction injection polyurethane moulding (RIM) would be advantageous.
  • Interest in or experience with sales/technical sales, with a proven ability to articulate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, particularly in relation to tooling/component design for moulding and manufacturing challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a track record in business development.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, supporting cross‑functional departments and contributing to a collaborative work environment.
