Our client is an established, client-focused accountancy practice providing a comprehensive range of accounting, bookkeeping, taxation, payroll and business advisory services to businesses across the UK. We are looking for an experienced and organised Account Manager to manage a portfolio of client accounts and support the day-to-day financial operations of the practice. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong accountancy practice background who enjoys working with a variety of clients and can confidently manage multiple accounts while maintaining high standards of accuracy and client service. The successful candidate will have flexibility over which days they work at each office, with their weekly hours spread across both Langport and Sherborne. The role will also require travel between the two offices when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of client accounts and maintain accurate financial records
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts and financial reports
- Assist with bookkeeping, bank reconciliations and ledger maintenance
- Prepare and review VAT returns and support HMRC compliance requirements
- Support payroll processing and maintain payroll-related records where required
- Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable and client financial transactions
- Assist with year-end accounts preparation
- Analyse financial information and investigate discrepancies
- Maintain accurate accounting documentation and records
- Support audit preparation and respond to financial information requests
Client Relationship Management
- Act as a key point of contact for clients regarding accounting and financial queries
- Build and maintain strong, professional client relationships
- Assist clients with accounting software and financial documentation
- Provide practical guidance on routine accounting matters
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely delivery of client services
Compliance & Process Improvement
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, HMRC regulations and internal procedures
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and operational efficiency
- Assist with accounting system implementation and process improvements
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of accuracy and client service
Skills & Experience
- ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 3 years' post-qualified experience within an accountancy practice
- Strong experience in: Payroll, VAT, Sole Trader / Partnership / Limited Company accounts, Self-Assessment tax returns
- Good knowledge of accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar
- Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Confident and professional approach to client communication
- Ability to manage multiple client accounts independently
- Willingness and ability to travel between the Langport and Sherborne offices when required
