We are recruiting Support Workers for Willowgate, a new programme based in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. The programme provides short term supported accommodation for people at risk of homelessness and will comprise of 15 self-contained units suitable for individuals, families and couples. The Support Worker will work closely with people accessing the programme, South Lanarkshire Council and the wider community to help people achieve their goals and move on to more settled accommodation. The post holder will ensure we maintain a high quality, customer focused delivery of service to the people we support through effective values led individualised support and promotion of voice.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate levels of high-quality support to those we support.
  • Utilise detailed support plans to record and assess the progress of the people you are supporting.
  • Arrange and facilitate key work meetings to develop and review support plans in collaboration with the people we support to meet their individual needs both within the service and out with.
  • Accurately record matters relating to the wellbeing of those we support; compile and review risk assessments for the people we support.
  • Develop life skills with those we support, including how to maximise income, involvement in meaningful activities, budgeting, shopping, cooking and any other skills that aid independence.
  • Plan, implement and develop workshops or programme activities with those we support.
  • Assist the people we support through engagement with integration into the local community.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants are expected to have experience from working in a similar role and/or environment, with experience of leading/supervising a staff team, or be able to demonstrate leadership skills. You will have an understanding of what people are going through when facing homelessness and how this affects their day to day lives. Knowledge of current relevant policies relating to housing and social care is an advantage. You will have a compassionate nature, be non‑judgemental and you will be an excellent communicator, able to build supportive and trusting relationships with your team and the people we support.

What you can expect from us

  • You will report to the Senior Support Worker.
  • Working hours are 14 per week worked Saturday and Sunday between the hours of 08.00 am and 10.00 pm depending on the needs of the service. Shifts are 08.00 am to 04.00 pm one week and 02.00 pm to 10.00 pm the following week.
  • Your main place of work is 12 Clydesdale Street, Hamilton, ML3 0DP.
  • Annual leave entitlement of 210 hours (equivalent to six weeks) pro rata per year in the first year rising to 280 hours (equivalent to eight weeks) pro rata per year in the second.
  • You will be automatically enrolled into the People’s Pension provided you meet the auto‑enrolment criteria. Deductions will be taken from your first monthly salary.
  • Cycle to work scheme, Option to purchase and sell annual leave.
