The Role:
At Rightmove we are investing heavily in our business - growing our existing revenue streams, exploring new commercial opportunities, upgrading infrastructure and onboarding new tooling and capabilities. In Product Development, we work in semi‑autonomous cross‑functional teams using Agile processes. Each team owns a part of the Rightmove experience and is made up of design, product, engineering and testing specialists. However, where an initiative spans multiple teams or requires complex cross‑functional collaboration, this is where our Programme Managers play a role. Our job is to ensure all of the local efforts are coordinated to achieve the desired business outcomes. The types of programme vary a lot and could relate to a new commercial product launch, a compliance initiative, a significant change to internal ways of working, a major improvement to our technical infrastructure, the acquisition of another company or something else!
What you’ll be doing:
- Manage complex programmes ensuring alignment, collaboration, and effective delivery across all involved stakeholders.
- Create and maintain programme plans, ensuring that dependencies between initiatives are well understood.
- Ensure scope is managed effectively and programmes stay focused on agreed goals and outcomes.
- Establish and maintain effective governance and status reporting without disrupting Agile practices.
- Manage stakeholder relationships and take responsibility for programme communication.
- Proactively identify and manage risks, issues, and blockers and ensure risk mitigation activities are undertaken.
- Where required, agree and co‑ordinate business change activity to ensure that affected stakeholders aren’t adversely affected by any programme‑led changes.
- Where required, track project costs and manage procurement activity.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and lead retros to identify actionable improvements to our ways of working.
- Play a role in managing your programme teams, helping resolve conflicts, motivating staff and keeping an eye on staff well‑being.
- Where required, be flexible to drop‑down a level of detail and manage individual initiatives.
- Contribute to defining and improving internal ways of working across programme and project management, change management, and agile delivery management.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is highly organised.
- Is flexible and adaptable.
- Brings energy and drive and can be trusted to get things done.
- Has great written and oral communication skills.
- Is endlessly curious about the subject matter of the programmes they are delivering.
- Is a people person and emotionally intelligent.
- Is honest and has integrity.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Repeated experience of managing large‑scale programmes, preferably in a modern tech organisation.
- Strong working knowledge of agile methodologies, agile at scale and more traditional programme management techniques.
- Experience of managing a wide range of programmes including commercial, business‑focused initiatives and large‑scale software delivery work.
- Demonstrated experience of leading business change activities to help staff through the change curve and ensure adoption of new systems and ways of working.
- Demonstrated ability to lead without direct authority, influencing diverse teams with varying priorities.
- Experience of line management.
Ideally:
- Experience of working for a tech‑focused company with a modern product‑led organisation structure.
- Past experience of hands‑on roles in technology teams.
