Role Overview
As a Platform Engineer in our Cloud Foundations team, you will design, implement and maintain our cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Design and build secure, scalable cloud infrastructure on GCP.
- Help migrate legacy and on‑premise workloads to the cloud.
- Automate infrastructure with Terraform, enabling faster and more reliable deployments.
- Maintain container platforms using GKE and Helm.
- Shape cloud networking, including load balancing, CDNs, API gateways, and service mesh.
- Ensure security, resilience, and alignment with cloud security best practices.
- Set up monitoring, logging, and observability for easy issue detection and resolution.
- Optimize performance and spend, finding smart ways to reduce costs.
- Tackle complex infrastructure problems, working with cross‑functional teams to resolve them.
Qualifications
- Hands‑on experience as a cloud infrastructure engineer, preferably focused on GCP.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code, especially Terraform.
- Experience building and running containerised workloads using Docker and Kubernetes (GKE).
- Knowledge of service mesh technologies and how they support modern platforms.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts in the cloud.
- Experience using CI/CD pipelines (such as GitLab CI) to deploy and manage infrastructure.
- Comfort with at least one programming or scripting language in an infrastructure context.
- Experience with secrets management, monitoring, logging, and observability tooling.
- Good grasp of cloud security principles and compliance considerations.
- Practical experience optimizing cloud costs and using resources efficiently.
Nice to Have
- Experience with event‑driven or microservices architectures (e.g., Pub/Sub, Kafka).
- Exposure to tuning or operating search or data platforms like Elasticsearch.
- Familiarity with serverless concepts and when they are appropriate.
- Experience improving infrastructure performance and reliability.
- Understanding of AI/ML infrastructure needs on GCP.
