About the Role
To carry out electrical installation, maintenance, testing, and repair works across council housing stock and public buildings, including void properties, occupied homes, and communal areas. The role requires delivery of high-quality, compliant work in line with current regulations, company standards, and client specifications. This includes fault finding, EICR works, rewires, and responsive repairs within agreed timescales and KPIs.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out electrical installation, repair, and maintenance works across domestic and public buildings
- Undertake full and partial rewires, upgrades, and refurbishment works (voids and planned works)
- Complete fault finding, diagnostics, and remedial works on electrical systems
- Install and maintain:
- Lighting and power circuits
- Extractor fans and ventilation systems
- Testing & Compliance
- Carry out electrical testing and inspection ready for sign off by the QS.
- Ensure all works comply with:
- BS7671 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations)
- Health & Safety legislation
- Client specifications and SOR requirements
- Maintain accurate records, certification, and compliance documentation
- Health & Safety
- Work in compliance with company and client Health & Safety policies
- Carry out on-site risk assessments and safe isolation procedures
- Identify and report hazards, incidents, or defective equipment
- Follow asbestos awareness procedures where applicable
- Customer & Team Working
- Deliver a professional, customer-focused service when working in occupied homes
- Liaise with tenants, supervisors, and office staff to ensure efficient delivery
- Work independently or as part of a team to meet programme targets
- Support apprentices or improvers where required
- Operational Duties
- Complete works in line with job orders, timescales, and cost constraints
- Maintain van stock, tools, and equipment to required standards
- Ensure all jobs are completed, signed off, and documented correctly
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671)
- AM2
- ECS Gold Card
- Full UK Driving Licence
Experience
- Experience working on social housing / council contracts
- Strong background in:
- Responsive repairs
- Planned maintenance
- Experience completing EICRs and remedial works
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good knowledge of compliance and certification requirements
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines
- Good communication and customer service skills
