We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Transport Manager / Planner to oversee daily transport operations. This role is responsible for efficient vehicle planning, driver coordination, and ensuring full compliance across all transport activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining service reliability, operational efficiency, and adherence to legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage day-to-day vehicle scheduling to ensure efficient use of fleet resources
- Coordinate with drivers and allocate workloads effectively based on operational needs
- Ensure all jobs are completed on time and within agreed service levels
- Monitor and adjust plans in real time to address delays, issues, or changes in demand
- Maintain clear communication with drivers, customers, and internal teams
Compliance & Regulatory Duties
- Ensure all vehicles meet compliance standards, including regular inspections and maintenance checks
- Monitor driver compliance, including tachograph regulations, driver hours, and Working Time Directive (WTD) requirements
- Identify and manage driver infringements, ensuring corrective actions are taken
- Maintain accurate transport records and ensure all documentation is up to date
- Promote and enforce health & safety standards across all transport operations
Requirements
- Previous experience in transport planning or fleet management
- Strong understanding of transport compliance, including holding a transport manager CPC qualification
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication and team coordination abilities
- Proficiency in transport planning systems and Microsoft Office
