Right Now Group are recruiting for an experienced Transport Manager on behalf of a leading global freight forwarding business based in Hayes. This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy 24/7 transport operation, taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of transport activities supporting air freight movements across the UK. The successful candidate will oversee a network of approximately 20 subcontracted vehicles, ensuring operational performance, customer service, and compliance standards are consistently achieved.

The operation is split between Airside Transfer Facility (ATF) movements between airline facilities and collections and deliveries across the South of England, making this an ideal opportunity for someone with a strong transport operations background. This is a people-focused management role where you'll work closely with subcontractors, warehouse teams, customer service, and operations to ensure freight is delivered safely, efficiently, and on time.

Key Responsibilities of a Transport Manager
  • Manage the day-to-day performance of a busy 24/7 transport operation
  • Oversee the performance of approximately 20 subcontracted vehicles, ensuring service levels and customer expectations are consistently achieved
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with subcontract transport providers
  • Coordinate transport activity across both ATF shuttle movements between airline facilities and collections and deliveries throughout the South of England
  • Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and service delivery
  • Ensure compliance with transport legislation, Working Time Directive (WTD), and company procedures
  • Maintain compliance with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Aviation Security requirements
  • Investigate operational issues and implement effective solutions to minimise disruption
  • Work closely with warehouse, operations, customer service, and national transport teams to ensure seamless communication
  • Promote a positive Health & Safety culture across the transport operation
  • Produce operational reports and monitor transport KPIs
  • Drive continuous improvement across transport processes and customer service standards
Skills & Experience Required for a Transport Manager
  • Previous experience as a Transport Manager, Transport Operations Manager, Transport Supervisor, or similar leadership role within logistics or freight forwarding
  • Experience managing subcontracted transport providers or third-party logistics partners
  • Good understanding of transport operations within a fast-paced logistics environment
  • Previous experience within freight forwarding, air freight, or time-critical logistics would be highly advantageous
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Confident problem-solver with the ability to make decisions under pressure
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Flexible approach with the ability to support a 24/7 transport operation when required

  • Salary up to £50,000 depending on experience
