Right Now Group are recruiting for an experienced Customs Clerk on behalf of a well-established international freight forwarder based in Ashford.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with customs clearance experience who is looking to develop their career within freight forwarding.
Initially focusing on road import customs clearances, the successful candidate will receive full training across air and sea freight operations, with a clear progression path into a Multimodal Import Operator role.
Working as part of a supportive and experienced operations team, you\'ll play a key role in ensuring customs declarations are completed accurately and efficiently while gaining valuable exposure to all aspects of international freight movements.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete road import customs declarations accurately using the relevant customs systems.
- Ensure all customs entries comply with HMRC regulations and current customs legislation.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, CMRs, and supporting documentation to ensure customs compliance.
- Liaise with customers, hauliers, customs authorities, and internal operational teams to resolve customs-related queries.
- Monitor customs entries through to clearance, ensuring shipments are processed without delay.
- Maintain accurate customs records and ensure all documentation is completed correctly.
- Provide customers with updates regarding shipment and customs clearance status.
- Support the wider import operations team while receiving training across air and sea freight movements.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience completing customs declarations is essential.
- Experience handling road freight customs clearances would be highly advantageous.
- Good understanding of HMRC customs procedures and import documentation.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Good IT skills and experience using customs or freight forwarding systems.
