Right Now Group are currently recruiting for an experienced Export Freight Operator to join a leading international logistics business based within the Heathrow area. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Air Export professional who is confident managing Air Freight Export shipments from start to finish, including airline bookings, Air Waybills, export documentation and customs declarations using CDS. The position will predominantly involve the movement of pharmaceutical and temperature-controlled shipments, working within a specialist logistics environment where accuracy, compliance and attention to detail are extremely important.
Responsibilities of the Export Freight Operator:
- Manage Air Freight Export shipments from start to finish
- Handle shipments from initial instruction and booking through to final export and arrival at destination
- Make freight bookings directly with airlines
- Prepare and process Air Waybills
- Check flight details, routings and shipment information
- Complete export customs declarations using CDS
- Handle customs entries for EU and non-EU shipments, including NCTS where required
- Prepare all relevant export documentation and paperwork
- Liaise with airlines, handling agents, hauliers and other service providers
- Monitor shipments throughout transit and provide updates where required
- Complete post-flight checks and internal shipment reports
- Liaise with overseas offices and internal departments
- Investigate missing or delayed cargo and liaise with airlines to resolve issues
- Handle specialist pharmaceutical and temperature-controlled shipments
- Ensure freight charges are correctly applied where applicable
- Work in accordance with company SOPs and operational procedures
- Assist with shipment preparation, labelling and processing when required
- Support the wider operation during busy periods
The original specification also includes specialist exports involving regulated bodies such as HMRC, DEFRA, the Home Office, CITES and the Chamber of Commerce.
The successful Export Freight Operator will ideally have:
- Previous Air Freight Export experience
- Ability to manage Export shipments start to finish
- Good knowledge of airline bookings and Air Waybills
- Experience completing customs declarations using CDS
- Good understanding of Air Freight export documentation and procedures
- Experience using a TMS or similar freight management system
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Confident communication and customer service skills
- Ability to independently manage multiple shipments and priorities
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- A flexible and proactive approach
- Pharmaceutical or temperature-controlled freight experience would be advantageous
- Dangerous Goods, forklift, Active Unit Handling and X-ray/ETD/EDD training would be advantageous but are not essential
Hours for the Export Freight Operator:
The position operates Monday to Friday on an alternating weekly shift pattern:
- Week 1: 06:00 - 14:00
- Week 2: 12:00 - 20:00
The Export Freight Operator will also be expected to work two Saturdays per month, which will be paid as additional overtime.
Salary for the Export Freight Operator: £37,000 + additional Saturday overtime
