The Role: We are looking for an experienced Road Freight Operator to manage road freight shipments from booking through to final delivery. This role is heavily customer-focused and requires someone who takes ownership of shipments, communicates clearly, and ensures a smooth, reliable service throughout the entire transport process. You will act as the main point of contact for customers, coordinating drivers, hauliers and internal teams to ensure freight moves efficiently and on time. Please note, this role does not involve completing customs entries.
Responsibilities:
- Manage road freight shipments from order receipt through to final delivery
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers, providing regular updates and proactive communication
- Book and coordinate collections and deliveries with hauliers and transport partners
- Plan routes and schedules to meet service and cost expectations
- Liaise with warehouses, drivers and internal teams to ensure smooth execution
- Monitor shipments in transit and resolve any issues or delays quickly and professionally
- Ensure all transport documentation is completed accurately and on time
- Maintain accurate job files and update internal systems
- Deliver a high level of customer service at all times, building long-term client relationships
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in road freight operations or transport coordination
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to manage shipments end-to-end and take ownership of workloads
- Confident liaising with hauliers, drivers and customers
- Organised, detail-focused and able to prioritise in a fast-paced environment
- Good problem-solving skills and a calm approach under pressure
- Familiarity with transport management systems is advantageous
