Right Now Group are recruiting on behalf of a well-established small to medium-sized freight forwarding business based in Feltham, who are looking to appoint an experienced Import Clerk to join their growing operations team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in freight forwarding imports to join a business that handles a diverse range of international shipments across Air, Sea and Road Freight. The company works with both direct customers and overseas agents, offering plenty of variety and the opportunity to broaden your experience across multiple modes of transport.
The successful candidate will have experience managing import shipments from start to finish, including completing customs entries. Experience in Air, Sea or Road Imports is welcomed, as full cross-training will be provided across the remaining modes.
Key Responsibilities of the Import Clerk
- Manage import shipments from start to finish across Air, Sea and Road Freight.
- Complete import customs entries accurately and independently.
- Prepare and process all import documentation in line with HMRC requirements.
- Liaise with customers, overseas agents, shipping lines, airlines and hauliers.
- Arrange deliveries and coordinate the arrival of international shipments.
- Monitor shipments and provide proactive updates to customers throughout the import process.
- Resolve operational issues, customs queries and shipment delays efficiently.
- Ensure all operational files are completed accurately and invoiced within agreed timescales.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, suppliers and overseas partners.
Skills & Experience Required for the Import Clerk
- Previous experience working within Freight Forwarding Imports is essential.
- Experience within Air, Sea or Road Imports is welcomed.
- Confident completing import customs entries from start to finish.
- Good understanding of import documentation and HMRC customs procedures.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Experience using BoxTop, Sequoia or QuickBooks would be advantageous but is not essential.
- A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop across all freight modes.
