Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support (SEMH) – Primary School – York
Full-time - Term time only - Long-term role starting ASAP
We are working with a well-run, inclusive and supportive primary school in York who are in need of a Teaching Assistant. The perfect person will be supporting a KS2 pupil on a 1:1 basis to help them with their needs, centred around an SEMH diagnosis. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who can build trust, create a safe space, and help the pupil regulate and succeed throughout the school day, being their trusted person to help them manage with the routines of school life.
You don’t need to have all the answers, but if you’ve got resilience, patience, and the ability to stay calm under pressure, this could be a brilliant role for you.
- What’s involved:
- Supporting one pupil in KS2 who needs consistent boundaries and a calm, positive adult presence
- Helping with emotional regulation, behaviour, and transitions throughout the day
- Working closely with teaching staff and the school’s SEND team to keep things consistent and supportive
- Celebrating small wins and helping the pupil engage positively in their learning
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children or young people with behavioural or emotional needs
- Is patient, firm, and reliable
- Can remain calm and consistent, even when things are tough
- Is available full-time during term time
- (Bonus!) Has Team Teach training or similar, pay will reflect this addition!
