Love heights? Want a job that's anything but boring? This is not a desk job. You'll be climbing chimneys, towers, church steeples, and huge industrial structures working in places most people will only ever see from the ground. As an Apprentice Steeplejack, you'll learn how to safely work at mega heights while training towards recognised qualifications that can lead to a long-term, specialist career in high-access work, rope access, and structural restoration. You'll work alongside experienced steeplejacks, learning hands-on from some of the most experienced professionals in the industry.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

  • Climbing and working at heights of up to 300ft+
  • Helping set up scaffolding, ladders, rope systems, and access platforms
  • Carrying and preparing tools and materials for jobs at height
  • Learning how to inspect and repair chimneys, towers, and industrial structures
  • Cleaning, repairing, painting, bricklaying, and weatherproofing at height
  • Using rope access, harnesses, and safety systems like a pro
  • Keeping worksites organised and safe
  • Taking part in regular training as part of the Rigg Tech programme

Every day is different. Every site is different.

Who This Is Perfect For

  • Is 16+ with a head for heights
  • Is physically fit and likes being active
  • Prefers working outdoors instead of sitting inside
  • Likes practical, hands-on work
  • Works well in a team and follows instructions carefully
  • Wants to learn a skilled trade with real qualifications
  • Has GCSE English & Maths (helpful but not a deal breaker)

No experience needed, we'll train you the right way.

What You'll Get Out of It

This isn't just a job. It's a career path. You'll work towards:

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Accessing Operations & Rigging
  • Working at Height certification
  • Rope Access training
  • Confined Spaces training
  • Industry-recognised safety qualifications

These skills are in demand across construction, engineering, offshore, and industrial sectors and have established exciting and rewarding lives for many. If you meet a steeplejack you're about to have a fascinating conversation and hear unique experiences that only steeplejacks will be able to tell.

Career Progression

Start as an Apprentice and progress to:

  • Qualified Steeplejack
  • Rope Access Technician
  • Site Supervisor
  • Specialist in structural restoration or high-rise work

This is a niche skillset that can take you all over the world.

The Reality of the Job

  • You'll work at serious heights on narrow platforms or ropes
  • You'll wear harnesses, helmets, and full safety gear
  • You may travel across the country and stay away overnight
  • Early starts, occasional weekends, and weather-dependent work

It's challenging, exciting, and never boring.

  • No two days the same
  • You work in places most people never see
