CPL UK Healthcare (formally RIG Locums) are currently looking for a General Adult Consultant, NHS based in Darlington, North East England area. The role offers highly negotiable rates for a dedicated psychiatrist. The trust seeks an enthusiastic Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry to work full-time and it would be excellent for someone wanting to broaden their experience of inpatient psychiatry and develop their clinical skills in a supportive and challenging environment.
The team is well established with good support from senior clinical and managerial colleagues. There is a vacancy for a full-time consultant post to work in a male acute admission ward. There are two acute admission wards in the hospital, which is female acute and male acute. There are 4 beds commissioned by the Ministry of Defense across the two wards (Total of 18 acute beds on each ward and 2 MOD beds).
The principal duty of this post is to support the Inpatient Team. There are three Consultant Psychiatrists (3 WTE) identified to support the two acute wards at the Hospital, in addition to a Consultant Nurse. The post holder will be expected to work closely with other colleagues in Adult Mental Health to offer a flexible service which recognizes the potential for recovery within all service users. The post holder will need to have strong skills in multidisciplinary working and be prepared to provide clinical leadership within the service. The post holder will need to liaise regularly with the Crisis Team for smooth transition of patient care.
On average the proportion of detained patients seems to be in the range of 40-50%. Trust average length of stay appears to be around 31 days. The Trust has seen a reduction in the number of acute inpatient beds and currently manages the bed within the Trusts bed base which was aided by the development of the concept of Purposeful In-Patient Admissions. The Trust has seen reorganization of Adult Mental Health services few years ago, with the development of specialist inpatient teams and community teams. The latter have been further specialized into those patients with affective disorders and those with a psychosis.
